By working together, the citizens of North Carolina will see a day when prostate cancer is no longer a threat to the families of our state.
Mission
The coalition focuses on three goals:
- Raising awareness of prostate cancer as a major health threat to North Carolina families.
- Promoting community, state, and national action to battle this disease.
- Helping to unite and coordinate the efforts of all those battling prostate cancer in North Carolina.
Grow Your Own Way
Grow Your Own Way are grassroots programs developed for and by our coalition. All interested and concerned parties are invited to utilize these frameworks, work with us to refine and expend these, and bring new ideas to the table - growing in support of our vision to see a day when prostate cancer is no longer a threat to the families of our state. Sign up for our monthly meetings below if you want to keep up with these efforts, or join us in doing the work!
Cuts & Conversations: initially designed as a simple barber shop outreach program, we took lessons learned from our phase 1 barbers and developed a resource hub for barbers to utilize within their shops. We are currently seeking collaborations with local mental health resources and academic institutions for our next phase of development.
Virtual Fireside Chat: initially proposed as a dialogue about having prostate cancer, beyond talking about just treatment options. This evolved into an hour long micro-symposium for newly diagnosed men and their loved ones. The program is viewable here, along with numerous valuable resources referenced within the recording. We are currently seeking local collaborations to expand this effort to reduce isolation and bolster support for men with (prostate) cancer throughout NC.
